I work with adults navigating daily stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence, identity questions, life transitions, relational/family conflicts with special focus on high-achieving individuals in demanding careers, immigrants, first-generation individuals, and international students. I strive to offer a collaborative space to explore what's weighing on you, make sense of patterns holding you back, foster desirable change, and build practical tools to develop resilience and overall wellness. I believe balancing individualism with the valuable aspects of collectivism and community is essential to combat the loneliness epidemic.
In addition to my clinical experience in the United States, I have prior experience working in India within community mental health and hospital settings.
I accept Aetna Health Insurance and private pay. I can provide a superbill you may submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement; please check your insurance plan’s benefits.
My name is Jane Davis, LMHC, licensed in mental health counseling, and I have online appointments throughout the state of NY.
I have a Masters in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling from New York University. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I attained a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2 subjects--Modern Thought & Literature; and Humanities--and was a literature professor. That experience established my dedication to "helping people help themselves" through expanding their awareness in ways that lead to personal growth. I am originally from NJ, currently live in NY, and have lived in such places as Park Slope, Brooklyn; California; and the Midwest.
The focus of my therapy includes depression, anxiety, trauma-including racialized trauma-as well as borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder.
My clientele consists of people from a wide spectrum of backgrounds and experiences. I typically work with adults, i.e., late teens-e.g., 18 or 19-through seniors. My therapeutic environment emphasizes unconditional positive regard, collaboration, and directness needed to establish therapeutic rapport and thus a therapeutic alliance
Congratulations on your commitment to your mental wellness. With over 30 years in practice, I have worked with a wide range of clients and concerns. Many are high-functioning individuals navigating stress, loss, trauma, or life transitions, seeking more than symptom relief. Others feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, even without a clear reason. I work collaboratively to understand your full experience and support meaningful change, integrating insight, practical strategies, and body-based awareness to help you build resilience, deepen self-understanding, and move forward with clarity and intention.
I first received my Master's in Guidance & Counseling in the 1990s from Hunter College in Manhattan and obtained an Advanced Certificate in Mental Health Counseling from the University at Buffalo. I have also been a practicing, licensed massage therapist for nearly 30 years. I have clinical experience providing empathic mental health care for individuals, couples, families, and groups and have treated anxiety, trauma, depression, personality and eating disorders, as well as other mental health concerns. I have also treated physical disease conditions and physical trauma with mind/body techniques. Each client is unique, and raising awareness of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors is the focus in working collaboratively and intentionally towards realistic solutions.
