I started my career in psychology and counseling when I experienced a suicide in my family. It gave me the courage to make changes for myself, and help people around me who were also suffering grief, loss, and depression. I'm an advocate of mental health issues, a proud adoptee, and a supporter of the arts. I have a masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have been working with individuals, teens, and families for over 10 years.
My name is Edili Marleny Maldonado, and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York. I have been working in the mental health field for the past nine years. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, elders, high-risk clients, and clients from different social backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, ages, genders, economic statuses, and mental health disorders.
I have an eclectic approach to therapy. Some approaches that have been consistently receptive with clients are cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, modeling, motivational interviewing, etc., which I generally use. However, I typically prefer to match the clients' needs to specific therapeutic approaches, thereby significantly increasing the effectiveness of treatment.
My desire to help others drove me to work in the mental health field; thus, I strive to help clients improve themselves to lead healthier, fulfilling lives by implementing various coping skills. I aim to empower clients through insight and strategies to enrich their lives further and become self-sufficient in managing their problems, issues, and situations. Thus, clients gain self-awareness, acceptance of self, harmony, and mental balance/equilibrium.
My expertise comprises working with individuals struggling with ADHD, grief/loss, oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, panic, stress, and mood disorders. I am also proficient in Spanish and have experience providing treatment in that language.
Let's begin the healthy and healing process together.
The prospect of starting counseling can appear scary. The worries of what other people may think, the stigma of counseling, and the thought of "am I weak'. I have been in this field for over 20 years, in a variety of setting, and I heard from many who shared their hesitation for reaching out. It takes courage to ask for help! I am here to offer education, support, and provide evidence-based treatments. We will work together to accomplish the goals that you set for yourself in counseling
I am a licensed psychologist providing services across the lifespan, although my training has provided me with a strong understanding of child and adolescent development, school based difficulties, and learning differences. I completed my doctorate in School Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and my pre-doctoral clinical internship at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD). My master’s degree was completed in Counseling & Guidance at New York University. I specialize in treating children and teens with neurodevelopmental disabilities, including ADHD and autism.
My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, flexible, and informed by evidence-based practices. I provide individual psychotherapy for children and adolescents to address a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress-related difficulties, academic challenges, emotional difficulties, behavioral challenges, and relationship challenges.
Together, we'll consider what isn’t working and develop insights for how to change. I combine multiple treatment techniques, including CBT, DBT, and other behavioral/solution-focused approaches. I would be happy to speak with you about ways we may be able to work together to meet your needs. You are welcome to call or email to set up an initial consultation.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) in the state of North Carolina. I have earned a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mount Olive. My clinical experience includes working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, Bi-polar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, trauma, and family dynamics. I have 13 years of experience working with the substance abuse population.
I enjoy helping people feel better and with finding a better outlook on life. I offer problem-solving skills to help navigate life and the curveballs it can throw! Sometimes you may just need someone to "vent" to and offer an unbiased opinion on your situation. I am "down to earth" in my approach.
