I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and hold a CASAC 2 certification in the state of NY. I have worked with people in my private practice struggling with alcohol use, marijuana use, anxiety, depression, marital concerns, and life transitions. I continue to pursue educational opportunities to enhance my skills and further my growth in the field of counseling and substance abuse. I am a mom of three kids and one dog :)
In a career that first began twenty years ago in the Middle East and journeyed to NYC, I have seen clients from every conceivable background who have sought nurturing guidance to face trauma, anxiety, grief and sadness. Often, whether working with men and women suffering from loss or separation, abuse victims, veterans, refugees, or families of substance abusers, I have witnessed that moment of clarity in a client when they realize there is actually hope for a better, more satisfying life. This, I believe, is the essence of therapy and I strive to smooth the path towards and beyond it.
My aim is to help my clients recover hope and find the hero within. I focus on deepening client/therapist relationship through insight, empathy, mindfulness, humor, care, creativity and humanity. Furthermore, I am determined these be not just words we throw around, but pointers towards a better life filled with dignity.
I love literature and have a Master's degree in Creative Writing. This, I believe, can be another unique window in one's approach to therapy.
I have a wide variety of experiences that I can draw upon to help you. I really enjoy helping clients become the best version of themselves! I can work with any and all issues that you might be experiencing.
Like many of my clients, I’m human first. I’ve had my share of joys and challenges, including growing up as a child of divorce—experiences that deeply shaped who I am and how I show up as a therapist. During my senior year as a Ronald E. McNair scholar, finishing my BFA in Theater, I realized my calling was to help others heal. That moment led me to pursue a Master’s in Social Work, with the dream of one day opening a private practice. Sixteen years later, I’m grateful to do work that feels meaningful, grounded in compassion, and led by lived experience.
I am a dedicated mental health professional with 16 years of experience in working with individuals, couples, & families to ensure they have the treatment and intervention needed to navigate everyday challenges of life & aid them in overcoming emotional obstacles and social hurdles that they face daily
Many of us undergo difficult, painful, and traumatic events in our lives – things that are not only painful while we experience them, but that have a way of sticking to us long after the fact. The impact of these events can make us lose touch with who we really are. This often manifests in feeling stuck in unwanted behaviors, feelings, and negative beliefs about ourselves. These things can be very hard to manage. I specialize in understanding these issues and how they affect us.
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming. I am a therapist who will listen to what you need and assist you with achieving your personal goals. During the therapeutic process you will be able to understand more about yourself, as well as what role your environment plays in your life. I work from a trauma informed perspective and will be supportive in exploring how past challenges are currently affecting your life. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) within my therapeutic approach, specifically Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which will allow you to learn more about using mindfulness in your life, and in your personal journey through therapy. I have experience working with adults who have Anxiety, Depression, and Bipolar Disorder with a variety of stressors. I look forward to connecting and being able to support you.
I have a masters in education and social work. I was a New York City public school teacher prior to becoming a social worker. My heart and soul drive my practice and I love what I do!
My approach will be determined by your needs. Tus necesidades determinaran mi enfoque.
What can clients expect from their first session with you?My hope is that my clients leave my sessions feeling supported and empowered for the days ahead. Mi esperanza es que mis clientes salgan de mis sesiones sintiéndose validados y empoderados para los dias siguientes.
